Volkswagen Is Adding Driver Assistance Features for 2016

If you wanted driver assistance features like blind spot monitoring and parking assistance, up until now you would have needed to pony up for a luxury brand, like Porsche or Audi.  For 2016, however, Volkswagen is adding these features to their Golf, Jetta, and Passat lines.

Different models offer different features, some standard, some optional, but this is the first time they've been available at all on many of the cars.  Below is a video of the convenience of VW's Park Assist feature.

Neo-hippies rejoice? Electric-Powered Micro-Bus Could be Unveiled Next Year

 

 

It's been teased for a few years now, and they are still only rumors, but a new report from Autocar says that the new "Bulli", or Microbus, could be unveiled in 2016 at CES Las Vegas. 

 

The iconic VW Bus of the 60's and 70's brings back warm fuzzy feelings for a lot of baby boomers.  It would be great to see if a modern-day electric version would attract such a cult following.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged Clean Diesel engine in the Volkswagen Passat TDI has powered the car to the Cars.com "Eco-Friendly Car of the Year" award by the editorial staff at cars.com. 

The editors praise the Passat TDI as "the untimate road trip car" with "impressive highway mileage and long range". At 30 mpg city and 42 on the highway, the diesel-powered version of the highly rated Passat can take you a long ways on a 18.2 gallon tank of gas. 

 Also praise-worthy were the Passat's cabin and trunk space and the quality of it's interior.

The VW Tiguan takes on the Jeep Comass Limited

 

If you are looking for a smaller SUV and have considered the Jeep Compass Limited, you should probably take a look at the Volkswagen Tiguan. 

Comparably priced (the Tiguan is actually over $600 less, based on MSRP), the Tiguan provides quite a bit more power for the money.  The Tiguan's 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine pushes 200 horsepower vs. the 172 horsepower Compass.  The Tiguan also outperforms in terms of torque (207 ft-lbs vs 165).

The Tiguan also provides 200 pounds more towing capacity, and 270 pounds more maximum payload.
